You need gas, water, and electricity to get back to a regular, day-to-day schedule, and it’s one of the first things you’ll need to do. Trying to set them up by yourself can be daunting, and as you look for the best providers for each utility, you may feel overwhelmed. If you’re relocating to Chattanooga, you don’t have to deal with that! Gas Utility | Chattanooga Gas

Natural gas is an important thing to have in your home. Not only does it power any gas-powered stoves, but it also works to heat your water heater and heat your home. If you want to take a nice hot shower, wash your clothes, or cook, you’re going to need to set this up right away! The company that provides gas for Chattanooga is Chattanooga Gas. They’ve been in business for almost 200 years! Serving over 66,000 customers, this is the one company you can rely on for your gas service.

An interesting thing about gas rates in Chattanooga is that it’s charged differently based on the month. From the months of November to April, you have your base charge of $17.00 and then the rate charge of $0.5562. Also, an important thing to note is that your water and electricity must be turned on before they can set up your gas.

You’ll need your information, like address, any gate codes, your personal information, birthdate, and social security number. If you do not have a social security number or don’t wish to provide it, you’ll be billed a deposit. Chattanooga Water | Tennessee American Water

Maybe one of the first utilities you think of is your water utility! You need this for dishes, laundry, cleaning yourself, and drinking! Thankfully, getting your water couldn’t be easier in Chattanooga. Water in Chattanooga is run by Tennessee American Water. They serve over 360,000 individuals in the area, and are dedicated to bringing you water in line with the USEPA standards.

The way Tennessee American Water charges you is based on a base rate plus the number of gallons that you use each month. You’re then billed monthly or quarterly, depending on your preference. Your base rate or “service charge” each month depends on the size of your meter. Small meters, like ⅝”, will have a service charge of $13.96 a month. But larger meters, like 8”, can rack up a service charge of $1,248.77 per month. Then, you’ll pay per 100 or 1,000 gallons of water that you use. To start or stop your Tennessee American Water, you can go here. If you haven’t had an account with them before, you may need to provide a deposit. They’re going to run your credit, and if you have good credit, they will waive the deposit. You’ll need to give them your address, social security number, and other personal information.

How to transfer service with Tennessee American Water

To transfer your service, you won’t need to pay a transfer fee, but you will have to notify them. You can do it here, and note what your previous address was and what your new address is.

How to pay your Tennessee American Water bill

To make things easier for their customers, they offer multiple ways for you to pay your Tennessee American Water bill. One way is to pay your bill online. You can do this with or without an account. If you pay through your bank account, there is no charge. But, if you pay with a credit card, you will be charged a $1.95 charge per transaction. Another way to pay is through the phone. You can call 1-855-748-6066 to pay with a Visa or Mastercard. Again, a $1.95 fee will be charged each transaction. You can also pay through the mail, in person, or at a local payment center, which can be found here.

EPB has been the source of Chattanooga’s power for over 75 years. They pride themselves on having the most automated smart grid in the nation, which helps to deliver electricity quickly, safely, and with less interruptions. EPB also provides fiber optic internet, so you can get bundled packages and save money. They talk about their reasonably low costs, but they don’t do a breakdown on price for you over the internet until you input your address. Once you figure out your pricing and order your power, you’ll need to eventually pay your bill! There are a few different ways you can pay your bill. First, you can pay online here. You can either set up an account for recurring payments, or you can do a one-time payment. You’ll need to know your account information, address, and a few other details. Chattanooga Trash & Recycling | Chattanooga City

The trash service is provided by the city for a fee each month. This will depend on whether you have one or two bins, a recycling bin or just trash, and if you have to purchase a new bin or not. If you just bought a new home that’s brand new construction, Chattanooga City will provide you with a garbage bin. But if you purchase an older home and it doesn’t have a garbage bin, you will be charged a $75 fee.
